Links to relevant legislation and resources found on this page are intended to be used by Candidates and Third Party Advertisers. Provincial legislation largely guides the Municipal and School Board Election process in the province of Ontario, but there are Peterborough-specific requirements that Candidates and Third Party Advertisers should be aware of. 

Documents are in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat formats. Hard copies or alternate formats are also available in person at the City Clerk’s office during normal business hours Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Legislation

Candidates alone, or with the assistance of their own legal counsel, are responsible for ensuring they follow all applicable legislation related to running a political campaign, and campaign finances. Candidates should refer directly to the Municipal Elections Act,1996 for specific details. The legislation is available:
